Numerous illustrations. (Toning, folding crease to some volumes.) Note: a complete run of the first volume of the magazine aimed at those 'who believe passionately in the co-relation of the arts and Art's imaginative integration with technology, science, architecture and our entire environment'. William Burroughs, Brion Gysin, Duchamp and 'Lucretius' contributed. Roland Pensrose was a patron. - And three avant-garde related items ('The Changing Guard', a 2 volume special edition of the Times Literary Supplement, 1964, 4to, and 'Nieuwe Realisten', 1964, folio) (12).

LOGUE, Christopher. I Shall Vote Labour. London: Turret Books, 1966. Limited edition, this being 1 of 1000 copies, single leaf (563 x 429mm.) Poster poem printed on recto. (Some fading, small tear to upper margin.) Note: inspired by the 1964 General Election which saw Labour narrowly beat the conservatives. With a majority of only four, Wilson held a second general election seventeen months later and 'Tribune', the Labour Party magazine, asked a selection of writers and artists why they would vote Labour. This poster poem was Logue's response.

FREKE-GOULD, Robert. The History of Freemasonry… Its Antiquities, Symbols, Constitutions, Customs Etc. London: The Caxton Publishing Co., [n.d. circa 1880]. 3 vols., 4to (290 x 231mm.) Frontispieces with tissue-guards, 45 plates, including 36 in colour. (Some spotting to preliminaries, name inscribed in ink to all front-free endpapers.) Contemporary half morocco with Masonic gilt design to upper covers, elaborate gilt to spines, g.e. (fading to spines). - And a further twenty-four miscellaneous volumes (including William Thackeray's 'The Virginians', 1858, 8vo) (27).

Original red cloth, gilt lettering to spines, dust-jackets (slight mark to one spine panel), contained within four red cloth slipcases (slight fading to slipcases).

WISDEN, John (publisher). Cricketer's Almanack. London: John Wisden & Sporting Handbooks, 1963-2014. 49 vols., 8vo (159 x 98mm.) Advertisements, photographic illustrations. (Toning, several with names inscribed in ink, spotting to top edge and some fore-edges.) Original brown cloth, card cover for 1967 edition, dust-jackets (lacking dust-jackets for three volumes, wear to top of 1973 dust-jacket and some sunning, especially to the 2003 edition). Note: comprises the 1963 edition and then a complete run of almanacks from 1967-2013 (49).

COMMON PRAYER, In English. The Book of Common Prayer and Administration of the Sacraments, and Other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church… together with The Psalter or Psalms of David. Oxford: Clarendon Press by Dawson, Bensley, and Cooke, 1809. 8vo (202 x 121mm.) (Browning, slight trimming to head of title, minor damp-staining.) Contemporary black diced morocco (rubbing, wear to lower joint). Provenance: Mrs. S. Hill, wife of John Hill licensee of the Cross Keys Inn, Smithfield (bookplate to the front pastedown). - And a further thirty-three volumes of 19th century Bibles (34).

FLAXMAN, John. The Iliad of Homer. London: Longman, Hurst, Rees & Orme, 1805. Oblong 4to (268 x 418mm.) Engraved additional title and a further 39 plates engraved by Tommaso Piroli, including 3 by William Blake after designs by Flaxman. (Lacking title, preliminaries loose, heavy spotting to first three plates, moderately thereafter.) Contemporary half calf over marbled-paper covered boards, black morocco lettering piece to spine (rubbing to extremities). Provenance: John Francis Davis (bookplate to the front pastedown); H.G. Smith (bookplate to rear pastedown). - And a further fourteen illustrated volumes (including John Everard's 'Living Colour', 1937, 4to, and 'The Art Journal Illustrated Catalogue: the Industry of All Nations', 1851, 4to) (15).

BIBLE, In English. The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments: Translated out of the Original Tongues, and with The Former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised. Edinburgh: by J.H. Blair and J. Bruce, 1799. 4to (258 x 204mm.) Title, and separate NT title, index to rear. (Toning, occasional browning.) Contemporary calf, brown morocco lettering piece to the spine, gilt borders (light rubbing to extremities). Note: loosely inserted a 1p. manuscript leaf in the hand of Baptist preacher C.H. Spurgeon containing part of a sermon he gave at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, 1881. Provenance: Mary Maria Steptoe (name inscribed to front-free endpaper). - And a further four 18th century Bibles (including 'The Holy Bible' published by Mark Baskett, 1765, 4to, and a bound extract of 'Apocrypha' [n.d. circa 1800], 4to) (6).

COSTUME DESIGN. - Leopold VERCH. Verch & Flothow. Charlottenburg, Berlin: [n.p.: circa 1900.] 49 leaves of photographic illustrations exhibiting the wears of Verch & Flothow, including numerous theatrical hats, swords and spears and armour. (Lacking title page and some leaves, minor soiling, tear to one leaf, stamps.) [Bound with:] Obronski, JMPEKOVEN & Cie. Berlin: [n.p: circa 1900.] Numerous illustrations of theatrical costumes and props, including swords, daggers, hats, bows and arrows, shields and head-dresses. (Browning, paper repairs to last leaves, lacking title, some pencil annotation.) Oblong 4to (274 x 378mm.) Later red cloth (rubbing, fading). Note: Leopold Verch was an important German costume designer and distributor for theatre and film in the early 20th century.

MANUSCRIPT. [Three manuscript ledgers relating to legal matters in Devon, mainy relating to the Bampfyeld family of Poltimore House. N.p:] 1726-1807 Approximately 166pp. and 68pp. and 49pp., folio (413 x 310mm.) In various hands, mostly legible and often closely written papers relating to the estates of the Bampfyeld family in Devon and in Gloucester, covering disputes including that of Bampfyeld v. John Parker, indentures and contracts. (Some browning, occasional loose leaves.) Original paper wrappers (covers loose, worn). Note: the manor of Poltimore was the seat of the Bampfyeld family from 1300-1920. These papers relate mainly to the period 1750-1780, the period of Charles Warwick-Bampfyeld, M.P. for Exeter. Charles died after being shot by his housekeeper's husband, who believed Charles was having an affair with his wife.

CONAN-DOYLE, Arthur (words) and Monk GOULD (music). Sir Nigel's Song. London: Edwin Ashdown, 1907. 4to (340 x 262mm.) 7pp. musical score. (Slight spotting to rear leaf.) Original paper wrappers with 'New Songs' to lower cover (spotting to lower cover). Note: scarce. 'Sir Nigel' was a historical novel by Conan-Doyle set during the first phase of the Hundred Years War. It was published in 1906, a year before this song. Provenance: Conrad H.E. Gruneberg (name inscribed to upper cover).

Folio (398 x 297mm.) 4pp. title with list of photographers, 24 photographic illustrations, tipped-in on card with individual tissue-guards, all of nude subjects, with 8 by Bruno Schultz, 3 by Willy Zielke, 3 by Heinz Hajek-Halke, and others. (Toning, some creasing to tissue-guards.) Original portfolio boards with soft-card flaps (some splitting to spine, wear to flaps). - And a related volume ('En Costume d'Ève, Etudes de Nu Feminin d' Après' containing 12 (of 18?) plates, [circa 1920], folio) (2).

CHURCHILL, Winston S. The Collected Works of Sir Winston Churchill. London: The Library of Imperial History, 1973-1976. 38 vols. Limited edition, this being number 1082 of 3000 sets of the Centenary Edition, 8vo (232 x 145mm.) Numerous illustrations. Original vellum, the Churchill coat-of-arms in gilt to upper covers, gilt lettering to spines, g.e., green slipcases (small knock to slipcase of volume 14 - 'Marlborough, His Life and Times', slight variation in tone to the vellum). Provenance: Nigel E. Bayman (limitation plate to front pastedowns). Note: includes the 4 volume 'Collected Essays of Winston Churchill'. There's also a limitation bookplate on the front pastedown of each volume. This was a significant publishing endeavour and 3000 sets were intended but the publisher was declared bankrupt before completing the project, so less than 2000 sets are in existence (38).
