COMMON PRAYER, In English. The Book of Common Prayer, and Administration of the Sacrament, according to the use of the Church of England, together with the Psalter or Psalms of David. London: T. Davison, 1792. 4to (243 x 152mm.) 10 engraved plates. (Spotting to margins, marginal damp-stain to frontispiece.) Contemporary black straight-grain morocco, fillet borders, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (rubbing to extremities). Provenance: Ann Allenby (name inscribed to initial blank). - And a further four eighteenth century volumes (including 'The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments: Newly Translated out of the Original Tongues' published by James Watson, 1719, 12mo, and 'The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments' [Canne's Bible], published by Alexander Kincaid, 1766, 8vo, and 'The New Testament' published by John Baskett, 1742, 8vo) (5).

BREVIARY, in Latin. [Manuscript leaf possibly from a Breviary. N.p: but Italy: N.d: but 15th century.] 1 paper leaf (200 x 153mm.) 24 lines recto and verso in double-columns of black and red ink with four double-line red, green and blue initials heightened with gold and verso 3 double-line initials in red, blue and green, also heightened with gold. (Faint spotting to upper margin.) Contained within a modern mount displaying recto only (minor soiling). Provenance: 'Folio Society' (label verso the mount, stock number 'MS 2094'. - And a further three disbound leaves (including a leaf from 'Biblia latina mit postilla litteralis von Nicolaus de Lyra', published in Strasbourg by Johannes Gruninger in 1492, loose-leaf, and a leaf from André Thevet's 'Cosmographie Universelle', 1575, with a woodcut illustration of Erasmus, loose-leaf) (4).

MANUSCRIPT FRAGMENTS. [Manuscript leaf possibly from a breviary. N.p: n.d. but 14th century.] 1 parchment leaf (174 x 108mm.) 28 lines recto and verso in single column of black ink with a seven-line historiated vignette in blue, red, green, gold and grey beside an initial in ochre and gold, and recto another seven-line historiated vignette in blue, red, white, grey and gold beside an initial in ochre and gold. (Browning to margins.) Loose-leaf. - And a further eight leaves (including a fragment of Christian letters written on papyrus, [circa 200-500 A.D.], a manuscript leaf [13th century] in brown ink from part of 'Ecclesiaticus' with three initials issuing long scrolling bars in red and blue in the manner of William de Brailles, a further manuscript parchment leaf, possibly Pslam 41 and from a Breviary, [14th century] with single-line initials heightened in red, blue and gold, and also a bound volume of 18 leaves [circa 1540.]) (9).

Original cloth (volume 71 is a softback), dust-jackets (volumes 13, 17 and 21 lacking dust-jackets, twenty volumes price-clipped, mainly earlier, occasional rubbing, some names inscribed). Note: a run of ninety-six New Naturalists comprising volumes 1, 3-8, 11-38, 40-80, 82-85, 87-89, 91, 93-94, 101, 104, 109, 111-112, 114, 118, 125, 127, 132. First edition volumes are numbers 6, 11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 31, 41, 45, 46, 47, 48, 50, 51, 52, 56, 57, 59, 61-69, 70, 72, 73, 75, 77-80, 82-85, 87-89, 91, 93, 94, 101, 109, 111, 112, 114, 118, 125, 127 and 132. Volume number 70, 'Orkney', is a first edition, second state. - And a further twenty volumes related to the New Naturalist (including a 10 volume box-set of facsimile copies of volumes 1-10, six New Naturalist Monographs, and two reference works: Peter Marren and Robert Gillmor's 'Art of the New Naturalists', 2009, 4to, and Tim Bernhard and Timothy Loe's 'Collecting the New Naturalist', 2015, 4to, and two duplicate copies) (116).
