Photographs, Autographs and Ephemera

EPHEMERA. A collection of ephemera, including a Merchant's Gargling Oil Liniment advertising card titled 'Struck Out' featuring an American baseball player, advertising trade cards and scraps, greetings cards, Father Christmas and other chromolithographed scraps, memorial cards, postcards and other ephemera.

PHOTOGRAPHS. Two albums containing 64 cartes-de-visite photographs, the majority Royal portraits, including Sultan Abdulaziz, King Amadeo I of Spain, Queen Maria Vittoria del Pozzo of Spain, Prince Frederick Charles of Prussia, Kaiser Franz Joseph of Austria, Tsar Alexander II of Russia and Queen Victoria.

SCRAP ALBUMS. Three scrap albums containing a George IV Coronation Pass Ticket, mounted prints, manuscript verse, clipped postal covers and newspaper cuttings, together with a leather-bound crest album.

PHOTOGRAPHS, JAPAN. A collection of 17 stereoscopic viewing cards of Japan published by Underwood & Underwood, including stereoscopic photographs titled 'A picturesque toiler of the sea with his curious fishing net, bay of Matsushima', 'A family of middle-class picnicking under the cherry blossoms, Omuro Gosho, Kyoto', 'Big sisters and little brothers in the Land of the Rising Sun, Yokohama' and 'Looking S.E. from the pine-crowned heights of Suwa-yama over prosperous and lovely Kobe' contained within a clothbound box titled 'Japan Through the Stereoscope', together with a printed Japanese scroll and a woodblock printed hand-stitched book for Samurai retainers circa 1865.

PHOTOGRAPHS. A collection of photographs of British topography and social history in five albums and loose.

PHOTOGRAPHS. Three albums containing approximately 120 cartes-de-visite and cabinet-size photographs, together with two empty cartes-de-visite albums.

PHOTOGRAPHS. Three albums containing approximately 725 photographs of military, horse-racing, polo, and social history interest, the majority small-format mounted photographs, including military photographs of Somalia, circa 1920-1937, leaves approximately 425 x 305mm.

EPHEMERA, PRINTS. A collection of prints, bookplates and sheet music covers, including covers for 'Popular Tunes, Galop' by Frank Musgrave, 'Little Jack Frost Quadrilles' by Arthur Henry Brown, 'London Season Lancers' by Charles Coote Junior and 'Married to a Mermaid' sung by Mr Arthur Lloyd.

EPHEMERA, THEATRE. A collection of ephemera and photographs relating to the ballet and the theatre, many relating to Alice O'Day, including an autograph letter and photograph signed by Lillah McCarthy, a typed letter signed by Gerald du Maurier, autograph letter signed by Catherine Gladstone and an autograph letter, together with a photograph signed by Billie Burke.

PHOTOGRAPHS, NAVAL. An album containing approximately 162 small-format photographs and 13 postcards, the majority of naval interest relating to SSZ class airships, including aerial views taken from 'blimps' and photographic postcards titled 'The First Surrendered U Boat Entering Harwich Harbour Nov 1918', 'The First German U Boat to Enter Harwich, Nov 1918 (Passing up the River Stour after its Surrender)' and 'Surrendered U Boats at Harwich, Nov 1918'.

EPHEMERA, TRANSPORT. A collection of ephemera relating to travel and transportation, including P&O and United States Lines menu cards, brochures relating to R.M.S. Queen Mary and R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth, a Blue Guide Appendix for 'Cabs, Omnibuses, Tramways & Underground Railways', promotional cards for Ogle Design and H.R. Owen Ferrari and posters for the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland.

EPHEMERA, SUSSEX & HAMPSHIRE. A collection of ephemera relating to Sussex and Hampshire, including letterheads, auction property particulars, photographs and brochures.

PHOTOGRAPHS, SCHOOLS. Two albums containing approximately 379 mounted photographs, the majority relating to schools with some social history, British and European topographical views, including photographs captioned 'Twyford School Midsummer 1894', 'Twyford School, Theatricals, Christmas, 1894', 'Pegasus Club Races 1902, Harefield' and photographs of Marlborough College captioned 'Marl: Coll: Choir 1902', 'Littlefield Midsummer 1902' and 'Marl: Coll: Common Room Mids: 1903'.

PHOTOGRAPHS, INDIA. An album containing 40 mounted albumen-print photographs of Indian topographical views, including views captioned 'Palace Gate, Jaipur', 'Main Street and Wind Palace, Jaipur', 'Nasim Bagh, Srinagar' and 'Spearing fish on Dal', 24 photographs approximately 245 x 200 mm, remaining mounted photographs are smaller format, together with a group of 4 loose photographs relating to India and Pakistan.

PHOTOGRAPHS, RURAL LIFE. Two albums containing approximately 173 postcards and post-card size photographs of the Hayes and McKibbin family at Kents Green House Farm, Gloucester, circa 1910.

PHOTOGRAPHS, JAPAN. A Japanese lacquer album inset with bone and mother-of-pearl containing approximately 53 mounted photographs of Japan, including many hand-tinted and folding panoramic photographs and views titled 'Mogi Town Near Nagasaki', 'Nagasaki', 'Tea-House Near Mogi', 'Shijio Iron Bridge - Kioto', 'N. Nogawa Manufacturer of Bronze Ware, No.22 Shijo Otabichio Kioto Japan' and 'Fencing', 6 album leaves at rear containing mounted postcards of artistic impressions of Paris and photographs of naval interest, album leaves 345 x 260mm.

PHOTOGRAPHS. An album of mounted photographs, approximately 87 relating to Chile, South America, including Antofagasta, River Loa, Sierra Gorda Station, depicting railways, shipping and industrial interest, and other small-format family photographs and British topographical views, circa 1907-1934, album leaves 310 x 237mm.

PHOTOGRAPHS, FIRST WORLD WAR. An album containing approximately 69 mounted photographs relating to the First World War in Europe, including views of trenches, bomb damage, abandoned tanks, damaged bridges and railways, the majority of photographs 160 x 115mm.

PHOTOGRAPHS, ITALY. A leather-bound album tooled in gilt containing approximately 69 mounted albumen print and gelatin-silver print photographs of Italian topographical views and works of art, circa 1870, with photographs by Francis Frith, Fratelli Alinari, Giacomo Brogi and Ziegler of Berlin, including views captioned 'Ponte e Castel S. Angelo', 'Piramide di Caio Cestio', 'In the Campo Santo, Pisa', 'Piazza of S. Mark's, Venice' and 'S. Antonio, Padua', leaves 257 x 368mm.
