Photographs, Autographs and Ephemera

PHOTOGRAPHS. An album containing 44 cartes-de-visite of notable people including Charles Dickens, Alfred Tennyson, Victor Hugo, George Eliot and Charles Kingsley, together with another album containing 19 cartes-de-visite of topographical interest.

PHOTOGRAPHS. A collection of 14 cabinet cards of portraiture and topographical interest, most titled ‘Vues et Types D’Orient’.

PHOTOGRAPHS. A collection of cartes-de-visite and cabinet-size photographs in four albums, many identified as members of the Harradine, Hinson, Lawfield and Newman families.

PHOTOGRAPHS. A collection of 18 mounted black and white photographs of pineapple growing in the Azores, Arruda pineapple plantation, 1960s, the photographs 18cm x 23.5cm and on grey thin card leaves captioned in Portuguese.

PHOTOGRAPHS. An album containing approximately 691 small-format photographs, the majority relating to a tour of South, Central and North America, 1960s, leaves 34cm x 27cm, including Venezuela, Bogota, Medellin, El Salvador, Guatemala and elsewhere.

EPHEMERA. A group of ephemera relating to the London Salvage Corps, including 13 mounted photographs, leaves 22cm x 34.5cm, captioned and depicting fires and firemen in the 1920s as well as inspections by the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York.

PHOTOGRAPHS. A collection of various photographs in two albums and loose, including five cabinet cards of Florence published by C. Giacomo Brogi, approximately 29 cabinet cards of France, and a selection of mounted albumen-print photographs on thick card, many published by James Valentine.

EPHEMERA. An album containing approximately 145 mounted photographs, leaves 23.5cm x 29cm, the majority British topographical views, including views of gliding at Firle and farming scenes, together with a group of photographs in the Dover area, other photographs and ephemera.

PHOTOGRAPHS. A collection of 33 mounted photographs mostly of action during the Boer War, circa 1899, mount sizes range between approximately 16 x 19 cm and 26.5 x 36 cm.

PHOTOGRAPHS. A leather-bound album titled ‘Aeroplani Caproni, Sofia 1936’ to the upper cover, containing approximately 48 mounted black and white photographs, leaves 20cm x 30cm, documenting a commercial visit of the aircraft manufacturer to Bulgaria and including photographs of the planes and Bulgarian notable persons, the album additional inscribed by Colonel Vassili Boideff, chief of the Bulgarian Airforce. Note: Caproni was the most important Italian aircraft manufacturer of the first half of the twentieth century.

PHOTOGRAPHS. An album containing approximately 1312 square format black and white and colour photographs, the majority of trains, railways and stations, the majority of the photographs 8cm x 8cm.

DICKENS, Charles. A large collection of printed and manuscript ephemera relating to Charles Dickens, including booklets, theatre programmes, engravings, cigarette cards, advertisements and a group relating to the Dickens Fellowship.

POSTERS. A group of six playbills for the Theatre Royal, Glasgow, 1870s, four printed in colour, each 76cm x 24.5cm, together with a collection of approximately nine theatre playbills for The Royal Jollity Vaudeville Theatre, Bradford and a further five theatre playbills, all printed in colour.

POSTERS. A Theatre Royal Drury-Lane playbill dated 1796 for a performance of ‘Gamester’, 24cm x 16.5cm, together with a collection of other playbills for various theatres and performances.

EPHEMERA. A collection of ephemera including wax seals, date box advertising labels and cigar labels.

EPHEMERA. A collection of ephemera, the majority relating to Sussex, including a ‘snapshots’ photograph album containing 54 small-format photographs of Offham, East Sussex, printed souvenir booklets titled ‘Views of Steyning and Neighbourhood’ published by F. Smart, ‘Shippams of Chichester’, ‘Brighton, a unique selection of Aerial Photographs’, and ‘Picturesque Views of Uckfield & Neighbourhood’.
