Studio Pottery

A Mary Rogers porcelain small flared bowl, painted to the interior with a closely packed pattern of differently shaped blue circles underneath a speckled glaze, the exterior with a pale grey mottled glaze, gently torn rim, impressed mark to underside of foot, length 13cm. A large Geoffrey Whiting Avoncroft Pottery stoneware vase, of ovoid shape with narrow neck and flared rim, loosely painted with two opposing vertical stylized flower stems against a tenmoku ground, impressed seal marks to side edge of foot, height 39cm. A Trevor Corser St. Ives studio pottery stoneware jug, partially covered in an ash glaze and applied with a pattern of relief dots to the shoulders, impressed seal marks to base edge beneath handle, height 32cm. Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

Two pieces of St. Ives stoneware studio pottery, the first an ovoid vase by John Bedding partially covered in a brown glaze, height 36.5cm, the second a large circular bowl of dish shape raised on a circular foot, in the style of Trevor Corser, the interior surface decorated with a resist geometric design against a tenmoku ground, diameter 40cm, both with impressed seal marks (chips to dish).  Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

A Sidney Tustin Winchcombe Pottery slipware bowl, the base interior with a pulled or combed circular motif against a brown glazed ground, impressed seal marks to footrim, diameter 26.3cm, together with a large two-handled pottery planter of oval shape raised on four feet, slip decorated with wavy lines, unmarked, length 50cm, a Winchcombe type circular platter or charger in the style of Cardew, with sgraffito decoration against an ochre glaze, unmarked, diameter 31.8cm, and an oval slip decorated dish, unmarked, length 28cm (minor faults).  Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

A two-handled studio pottery stoneware bowl, probably Svend Bayer, painted to the interior with three brown fish against a washed ground, unmarked, diameter including handles 31cm, together with a small group of other studio pottery, including a Sarah Walton oval platter or dish, length 42cm, and three ovoid vases with narrow necks, tallest 16cm high with rough textured glaze and 'PW' mark to base, possibly Peter Wright. Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

Three pieces of studio pottery, comprising a porcelain bowl by Mary Rich, typically decorated with a gilt geometric pattern against a cobalt ground with pink lustre details and bands, impressed seal mark to outer edge of foot, diameter 24cm, a Nigel Lambert oval dish painted and incised with cobalt and green oak leaves, circles and brushstrokes, painted signature mark to base, length 41.5cm, and a Margery Clinton and Jan Williamson lustre glazed small bowl, painted marks to base, height 8cm. A mixed group of studio pottery, including a Molly Attrill square shaped platter painted with a cockerel against a white ground within a border of leaves and berries, 33cm square, a Chris Aston footed bowl with flambé glaze, height 8cm, a Suzy Cree footed bowl with slipware decoration, height 8cm, two other stoneware bowls with rough textured glaze, unmarked, tallest 8cm, a large globular stoneware vase with torn rim, height 25cm, a rectangular jar and cover with resist stylized foliate decoration, height 29cm, three assorted plates or chargers and an oval baking dish, various marks. Two John Maltby studio pottery stoneware yunomi, both typically decorated with resist cross and dot motifs against a pale ground above a brown glazed body and with a running glaze to the rim, impressed seal mark to outer edge of both feet, height 8.8cm. A John Maltby semi-porcelain studio pottery bowl, of flared circular shape raised on a small circular foot, the exterior painted with three red crosses and gilt dots in three squares against a tenmoku ground, white glazed interior, impressed seal mark to outer edge of footrim, diameter 14cm, together with a square stoneware dish resist decorated with a pattern of squares to the base interior, unmarked, 30cm square. A Picasso style Continental pottery circular dish, dated 25th June 1963, brush drawn in brown and painted in dark blue slip with the head of a buffalo, against a cream glazed ground, impressed 'M' marks to base, diameter 43.3cm.

An Eric James Mellon studio pottery stoneware vase titled Mermaid & Fox, the bulbous body painted with a long tailed mermaid beside a fox opposing a nude couple in romantic embrace, elm ash glaze and gilt highlights, black painted marks to interior edge of footrim, height 10.5cm.

Three pieces of studio pottery, comprising a Fenella Mallalieu teapot and cover with overhead handle, slip decorated with green and black splodges against an ochre ground, incised initials to base, height 24cm, a Paul Young studio pottery circular dish, slip decorated with a geometric pattern of asterisk and lines, impressed seal marks, diameter 33.5cm, and a Colonial Williamsburg Restoration 18th century style slipware baking dish, of rounded rectangular shape with combed decoration, impressed mark to base, length 41cm.

A Clive Bowen studio pottery stoneware plate, covered in a mottled brown slip with ochre splashes, the rim with sgraffito and impressed design, impressed seal mark, diameter 27.5cm, together with a similar plate with ochre glaze and green wavy line to the rim, unmarked, diameter 27.3cm, and six other studio pottery plates, of Winchcombe type, including a pair with green line decoration to the rim, and a pair with ochre glazed centre and line motifs to the rim.

A Ladi Kwali Abuja Pottery stoneware vase, of bulbous shape with reeded neck, covered in a running and mottled grey glaze, impressed seal marks to outer base edge, height 14cm, together with two other Abuja pottery vases, unmarked, 17cm and 11.5cm high.

A Merion John Warren studio pottery stoneware torso, modelled as a corseted female form, impressed mark to reverse, height 47cm.

An Eric James Mellon studio pottery rectangular stoneware tile, titled Jessica, painted in cobalt and iron with a seated female figure before drapes, elm ash glaze, black painted marks to side edge, 20cm by 9.8cm.

A Quentin Bell studio pottery oval dish or platter, incised, painted and partly glazed with a standing female nude set against a coastal landscape, the rim with a geometric pattern of stylized scrolls, various painted and incised marks to reverse, length 34cm.
