A late 17th century ebonized bracket clock, the eight day twin fusee movement with verge escapement striking on a single bell, the pull quarter repeat missing, the backplate with finely engraved foliate decoration and signed 'John Cotton London', applied with later pierced and engraved backcock, the square brass dial with engraved matt centre, mock pendulum and date apertures, framed by a silvered chapter ring with black Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minutes, inscribed 'Cotton London', cornered with cherub spandrels, the rectangular case with cushion moulded top, brass swing handle and four finials, above glazed doors and sides, on a stepped rectangular plinth base and claw and ball bun feet, height 37.5cm, with a winding key (pull quarter repeat train missing, reconverted to verge escapement and other minor faults). Note: John Cotton is recorded as a London clockmaker, apprenticed in 1683 and made free of the Clockmakers Company in 1695 to 1697.

A late 17th century red tortoiseshell veneered bracket clock, the eight day twin fusee movement with knife edge verge escapement striking on a single bell, the backplate finely engraved with tulips and other flowers framing foliate scrolls and signed 'John Cotsworth in Fleete Streete', the square brass dial with matt centre and date aperture, framed by a silvered chapter ring with black Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minutes, cornered with cherub spandrels, the case with cushion-moulded top and brass handle above glazed doors and sides, on a rectangular plinth base and bracket feet, height 35.8cm (some repairs and faults to veneer). Note: John Cotsworth (sometimes Cossworth) is recorded as a London clockmaker, born in 1637, apprenticed to Jeremy Gregory and made free of the Clockmakers Company in 1669 to 1702. He died in 1732, described as '... aged near 100, formerly a watchmaker in Fleet Street and the oldest inhabitant of St. Dunstan's Parish'.
