Studio Pottery

An Emmanuel Cooper studio pottery stoneware footed bowl, the flared body covered overall with a matt turquoise glaze beneath a manganese rim with gilt lustre splashes to the interior, impressed seal mark to base, diameter 16.5cm (restoration to rim). A John Maltby stoneware studio pottery square dish, resist decorated with red crosses, dots and dashes within a geometric design within tenmoku glazed framing, black painted mark to base, 32cm square. Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

A John Maltby painted wood automaton titled 'From The Window', dated 1987, the base painted to one side with a ship and two boats on a stormy sea with hailstones and snow, the other side with grey rainclouds, the middle section with movable elements, painted marks, overall height 32cm. A John Maltby painted wood and mixed media wall hanging automaton, with rocking ship named 'Albert' on a lead pendulum weight suspended before a stormy background, the foreground painted with a lighthouse and other houses, painted marks to reverse, total height 24cm. Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

A Sussex Dicker Pottery stoneware flask, dated 1807 to one side beneath a 'W + G' monogram, but early 20th century, the opposing side inscribed 'Oh how charming is good Liqur (sic)', impressed mark to base, height 10cm, together with a Prue Cooper studio pottery oval slipware dish, inscribed 'A TRIFLE FROM SOHO', impressed monogram mark to base, length 25.5cm. Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

A Julian King-Salter studio pottery stoneware vase, 1995-2000, of baluster shape painted with cobalt detail against a predominantly turquoise erupted glaze of volcanic lava like texture, impressed marks to base, height 24cm. Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

A Peter Smith Bojewyan Pottery dish or platter, of irregular square outline and flattened form, partially glazed and decorated with circular motifs within incised, moulded and applied framing, impressed marks to base, length 29cm. Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

A Peter Beard studio pottery circular 'Blue Disc' sculptural form, of abstract circular shape, layered wax relief decorated with seaweed style tendrils in grey outlined in cobalt against a shaded green ground heightened with tiny bubbles, raised on a black stone rectangular base, moulded applied seal marks, overall height 32.5cm. Two pieces of Peter Smith Bojewyan Pottery, both with slip decoration, comprising an oval two-handled baking dish with haphazard geometric design against a dark brown ground, length 36cm, and a shallow circular dish with terracotta detail against an ochre ground, diameter 27cm, both with impressed seal marks. Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

An early Ewen Henderson studio pottery bowl, circa 1975, the abstract shape formed from mixed laminated clays creating a banded and angular pattern, white porcelain spirals to the rim, unmarked, height 9.5cm. A Mary Rogers porcelain small flared bowl, painted to the interior with a closely packed pattern of differently shaped blue circles underneath a speckled glaze, the exterior with a pale grey mottled glaze, gently torn rim, impressed mark to underside of foot, length 13cm. A large Geoffrey Whiting Avoncroft Pottery stoneware vase, of ovoid shape with narrow neck and flared rim, loosely painted with two opposing vertical stylized flower stems against a tenmoku ground, impressed seal marks to side edge of foot, height 39cm. A Trevor Corser St. Ives studio pottery stoneware jug, partially covered in an ash glaze and applied with a pattern of relief dots to the shoulders, impressed seal marks to base edge beneath handle, height 32cm. Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

Two pieces of St. Ives stoneware studio pottery, the first an ovoid vase by John Bedding partially covered in a brown glaze, height 36.5cm, the second a large circular bowl of dish shape raised on a circular foot, in the style of Trevor Corser, the interior surface decorated with a resist geometric design against a tenmoku ground, diameter 40cm, both with impressed seal marks (chips to dish).  Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

A Sidney Tustin Winchcombe Pottery slipware bowl, the base interior with a pulled or combed circular motif against a brown glazed ground, impressed seal marks to footrim, diameter 26.3cm, together with a large two-handled pottery planter of oval shape raised on four feet, slip decorated with wavy lines, unmarked, length 50cm, a Winchcombe type circular platter or charger in the style of Cardew, with sgraffito decoration against an ochre glaze, unmarked, diameter 31.8cm, and an oval slip decorated dish, unmarked, length 28cm (minor faults).  Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.

A Takeshi Yasuda studio pottery stand or comport, oxidised stoneware covered in a sancai glaze, of circular shape raised on three reeded type looped feet, impressed seal mark to interior of one foot, diameter of top 26.3cm. A two-handled studio pottery stoneware bowl, probably Svend Bayer, painted to the interior with three brown fish against a washed ground, unmarked, diameter including handles 31cm, together with a small group of other studio pottery, including a Sarah Walton oval platter or dish, length 42cm, and three ovoid vases with narrow necks, tallest 16cm high with rough textured glaze and 'PW' mark to base, possibly Peter Wright.
