Studio Pottery

Six pieces of studio pottery by Louis Mulcahy, comprising three table lamp bases, tallest to top of fitting 32.5cm, a large circular tray or platter painted to the centre with two fuchsia flowers, diameter 39cm, a circular bowl with lustre painted berries and leaves, diameter 15cm, and a bowl and cover with lustre glaze, diameter 12cm, various impressed and incised marks. Provenance: from the personal collection of the ceramic artist, the late Eric James Mellon (1925-2014).

A Bernard Forrester stoneware studio pottery jardinière, of bulbous shape incised and painted with birds and stylized foliage between geometric banding in polychrome colours and gilt, gilt painted ‘F’ mark to base, height 14.5cm. Provenance: from the personal collection of the ceramic artist, the late Eric James Mellon (1925-2014).

A small Betty Blandino studio pottery stoneware vessel, of thin walled egg shape with torn rim, the exterior with thickly applied glaze in turquoise, cobalt, sang de boeuf and white, unmarked, height 7cm. Provenance: from the personal collection of the ceramic artist, the late Eric James Mellon (1925-2014).

Three small Marianne de Trey porcelain studio pottery bowls, the first of shallow form with five-sided rim, painted with turquoise ‘eyes’ against a sang de boeuf ground within incised panels, diameter 10.5cm, the second of slender footed shape with vertical line decoration in cobalt and brown, height 6.5cm, the third of flared circular shape with banded brown detail, diameter 11cm (restored), each with indistinct impressed seal mark. Provenance: from the personal collection of the ceramic artist, the late Eric James Mellon (1925-2014).

A small Siddig El Nigoumi studio pottery terracotta pot and cover, dated 1989, the red ground body incised with a scorpion and bird, the cover with incised geometric pattern within a darker rim edge, incised mark and date to base, height 8.5cm, with original purchase receipt. Provenance: from the personal collection of the ceramic artist, the late Eric James Mellon (1925-2014).

Two pieces of stoneware studio pottery by Micki Schloessingk, the first a cut-sided yunomi with titanium glaze, height 9cm, the second a carved sided vase with olive green/brown glaze, height 10cm, both with impressed seal mark, together with a pot and cover with resist decoration, impressed seal mark to edge of footrim possibly for Gilles Le Corre, height 11cm. Provenance: from the personal collection of the ceramic artist, the late Eric James Mellon (1925-2014).

A Lyn and Ian Wright Cors Its Ceramics studio pottery shelf in the form of a bra, with blue painted decoration and ribbon and lace detail, painted marks to reverse and No. 9, length 31cm, together with a similar pair of pottery knickers, black painted marks to reverse, length 36cm (faults), and a photocopy of an original price list from Cors Its Ceramics. Provenance: from the personal collection of the ceramic artist, the late Eric James Mellon (1925-2014).

A studio pottery lampbase in the style of Bernard Rooke, 1960s/70s, the flattened circular central section with impressed and incised decoration, flanked by protrusions above two small loops, unmarked, height to top of pottery 26.5cm.

A David and Hermia Boyd studio pottery mug, mid 20th century, of slender tall shape covered in a lustrous dark green glaze, incised marks to base, height 14.5cm.

A group of Hedwig Bollhagen pottery, decorated in black and white with geometric patterns and motifs, comprising a candle holder with circular base, diameter 13.5cm, a circular footed stand, diameter 16cm, a comport with detachable stand, diameter 18cm, and three pots and covers, black painted and impressed marks to bases.

A large brown glazed pottery floor standing lamp, probably Aldo Londi for Bitossi, mid 20th century Italian, the cylindrical body with horizontal bands of geometric decoration beneath a darker brown glazed neck, unmarked, height to top of fitting 63cm.

A Newlyn Troika Pottery double egg cup, 1970-74, decorated by Marilyn (Murphy) Pascoe, monogrammed, with white glossy glaze above a geometric pattern to the circular foot, black painted marks to base, height 9cm.

A Newlyn Troika coffin vase, 1976-77, decorated by Ann Jones, monogrammed, with abstract geometric decoration against a blue washed ground, black painted marks to base, height 17.2cm.

A John Leach Muchelney studio pottery bowl, dated 2003, of bulbous circular shape, wood fired with tenmoku glaze, impressed personal seal, pottery and date marks to base, diameter 22cm.

A set of six French L'Atelier du Grand Chêne Vallauris pottery plates, 1950s, each painted in shades of green and cobalt with a simplistic bird within a border of leaves, all with incised oak tree mark to reverse, diameter 23cm.

A Troika Pottery urn shaped vase, 1976-83, decorated by Alison Brigden, monogrammed, with a zig-zag band of horizontal stripes against a buff ground, black painted marks to base, height 25cm.

An Eric James Mellon studio pottery circular footed bowl, dated 1969, the speckled interior with a blackcurrant ash glaze, a plain oatmeal coloured glaze to the exterior, black painted marks and date to interior edge of footrim, diameter 12.3cm, together with a smaller Eric James Mellon studio pottery stoneware bowl, the unglazed interior with a pale yellow glazed exterior, black painted mark 'Mellon' to base, diameter 12cm.

Three pieces of Derek Davis stoneware studio pottery, comprising a circular bowl covered in a mottled cobalt and iron oxide glaze to the exterior, a running cobalt and green glaze over a sang de boeuf band to the interior, diameter 9.8cm, an ovoid vase with pale grey glaze, height 9cm, and a cylindrical vase with short neck covered in a mottled brown and green glaze, height 10cm, painted marks to bases.

A Bryan Newman Aller Pottery studio pottery stoneware sculpture in the form of a tenement block, of tall rectangular shape with pierced window and door details, surmounted by clouds on the roof, unmarked, height 38cm (minor faults). Provenance: property of a private Sussex collector.
